The short version

Ergane is a pottery journal. Everything you put in it stays on your phone.

We do not collect your data. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no adverts. It does not connect to the internet.

Who we are

Ergane is made by an independent developer in the United Kingdom. In this policy, "we" means that developer.

You can reach us at hello@ergane.works.

What the app stores, and where

The app stores what you enter:

All of it is kept in the app's own storage on your phone. We cannot see it, and we never receive a copy.

What the app does not do

On Android, the store may list standard permissions, such as network access, that the tools used to build the app declare. Ergane does not use them to send your data anywhere.

Camera and photo library

Your phone asks for permission the first time the app needs the camera. The app uses the camera only when you tap to take a photo of a build or a glaze test tile.

When you choose a photo from your library, the app receives only the photos you pick.

The app makes its own smaller copy of each photo and keeps it in its own storage. It reads the date the photo was taken. The app's copy does not keep the location or camera details from the original.

The app does not use the microphone.

You can switch off camera or photo access at any time in your phone's Settings. The rest of the app still works.

Export and import

Export data makes one zip file with your records and photos, then opens your phone's share sheet. You choose where the file goes, for example Files, Google Drive, Dropbox or an email.

Once you save or send an export file, it is outside the app. The service or person you send it to handles it under their own privacy policy. An export can include notes and photos, so share it with care.

The app keeps the most recent export file in its temporary storage until your next export, or until your phone clears it.

Import data reads a zip file that you choose and adds its contents to the app. The file is read on your phone.

Phone backups

If you have switched on iCloud Backup or Google backup, your phone may include the app's data in that backup. Apple or Google runs that service, and you control it in your phone's Settings. We have no access to those backups.

Deleting your data

We hold none of your journal data, so we have nothing to delete on our side.

If you email us

If you write to hello@ergane.works, we receive your email address and whatever you put in your message. This is the only personal data we handle.

We use it only to read and answer your message. Under UK data protection law, our lawful basis is legitimate interests: replying to people who contact us.

Our domain and email providers handle the message for us so that it reaches our inbox. We do not sell it, share it for marketing or add you to a mailing list.

We keep your message only for as long as we need it to deal with your request.

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or restrict how we use it. Email us and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

The website

The website at ergane.works uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking.

GitHub hosts the website. Like any web host, GitHub receives the IP address of each visitor and keeps logs for security. GitHub's own privacy statement covers that.

Children

Ergane is not aimed at children, but it is safe for them to use. The app collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy before the change reaches you. The date at the top shows when it last changed. The latest version is always at ergane.works/privacy and in the app under Settings.
